CNC & Laser Cutting
An advanced use of CNC technology is the use of laser for cutting and engraving to produce intricate patterns and motifs, such as arch cuts on raised panels for cabinet, passage doors and windows. The marriage of laser and CNC functions offer the advantages of both technologies in one system.
For example, Epilog Laser offers a standalone unit, the Zing Starter Series, for engraving and cutting wood. Digitally controlled air-cooled CO2 laser tubes power this unit, and it contains a file storage capacity of 64MB. Its rolling buffer allows files of any size to be engraved, while the brushless, continuous-loop, micro-stepper motors uses liner and rotary encoder technology for precise positioning.
Lastly, the air assist curtain directs a constant stream of compressed air across the cutting surface, to reduce flaming, scorching and charring of the material.
