World Expo 2010 -- Chinese-Americans build picture bond with visitors
A special exhibit entitled "The Chinese in America - We are Family" is on display at World Expo 2010's USA Pavilion, featuring more than 10,000 photos of Americans of Chinese descent.
The Committee of 100, which created the exhibit displayed on a video wall, has rallied vast numbers of Chinese-Americans to submit their photos online to reflect their pride in their heritage.
To date, the Websites jointhewall.org and comebuildthewall.org have received more than 77,000 visits with more than 10,000 people uploading their photos as well as their family surname, lineage, ancestral Chinese provinces and current US residence. New photos will be updated daily to the wall.
Many Chinese Americans regardless of their ages and origins, ranging US-born as well as Chinese mainland, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau, have jointed the drive.
Distinguished Chinese Americans have also "joined the Wall" and are featured with short profiles. Names include architect I.M Pei, cellist Yo-Yo Ma, Astronaut Leroy Chiao and skater Michelle Kwan. Photos of more than 50 Chinese children who have been adopted by US families will also be shown.
More than 40 community groups as well as Chinese language media have contributed to the initiative.
Founded in 1989, the Committee of 100 is a non-profit membership organization comprised of prominent Chinese-Americans in a broad range of professions.
